Matthew 6:19-30; Lay not up treasure for yourselves upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break in and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, where thieves do not break through nor steal.
Greeting and Salutations my brethren! The Lord Jesus has placed a message upon my heart that speaks to those of us who are of the household of faith, and to where our treasure is. Often times we find ourselves placing our faith and trust in worldly riches, and not in our risen Saviour, The Lord Jesus Christ. Matthew 6:21 states; For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. It is time for those of us who are true followers of the Lord Jesus to take a good look at our lives, and examine our hearts, and determine just where our treasure truly is. Where is your treasure?
At times we find our hearts fixed upon the things of this world, and upon gaining all of the things in this life that the world tells us we need to be happy and satisfied. The apostle Paul tells us to be content with food and clothing. 1 Timothy 6:8 states; And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. The Lord Jesus calls us to put our minds and hearts on things above an not on the cares and things of this world. It is time for those of us who are the true remnant of the Lord Jesus to put our whole faith and trust in Him for our provision. We must put side every distraction of the world, and do the work of leading all men to salvation in and through our most precious and holy Lord.
Brethren, what is your heart fixed upon? Is it fixed upon the things of this world? Have you sought the face of the Lord for your lives, and what it is that He has for you, or are you trying to please the world, and identify with it? It is time for those of us who are the true remnant of the Lord Jesus to understand that He is calling us in these last days to be totally committed to Him and His kingdom. Brethren, the Lord Jesus said in His holy word, that we are to sell all that we have, and give all of the proceeds to the poor, and take up our cross and follow Him. The false teachers of prosperity want us to believe that the Lord didn’t really mean what He said in regards to us as believers giving up everything for the kingdom. I believe that Jesus meat exactly what He said in this regard. When the lord was speaking to the rich young ruler about giving up all of his worldly possessions and aspirations for the kingdom, He meant just that. The Lord Jesus was telling the rich young ruler that he must give his all for the kingdom in order to follow Him. Have you given your all for the kingdom? Have you surrendered all of your worldly aspirations to the Lord?
Brethren, we must understand that the things of this world are a distraction, and if we fix our minds upon them, we will not be fruitful for the kingdom. The Lord Jesus did not even have a place to lay His head during his ministry. He was all about the Father’s business, and we are to follow His holy example. Matthew 8:20 states; And Jesus said to him, Foxes have holes, and the birds have nests: but the Son of man hath no place to rest his head. Brethren, the Lord will meet all of our needs. He will indeed provide for us, for He loves us, and wants us to be blessed. Phillipians 4:19 states; But my God shall supply all of your need according to his riches in glory. So my brethren, do not fix your hearts on the things of this world, and lay up treasures for yourselves, but seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. Matthew 6:33 states; But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all of these things shall be added unto you.
My precious brethren, take heed lest ye fall. Put the Lord Jesus first and foremost in your lives, and do not look to the world for your provision. The Lord is our provider, and He will supply all of our needs according to His riches in glory. Do not place your trust in the deceitfulness of riches my brethren. For if you do, you will be sorely disappointed and unfruitful. Mark 4:19 states; And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.
Brethren, the Lord Jesus is calling us as His followers to walk as He did. We must be about the Father’s business, and leave the cares of this world behind. Sure, we must be responsible and provide for the House of the Lord in the giving of our tithes and offerings. We are also to provide for our families, for if we do not do this we are worse than an infidel. 1 Timothy 5:8 states; But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel. Brethren, we are to work with our own hands, study to be quiet, and do our own business. 1 Thessalonians 4:11 states; And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you. Brethren, all of these things we are commanded to do, and by faithfully doing these things we glorify God. However, when we put the things of this world before the Lord, we commit sin, and we no longer glorify Him.
Brethren, do not be ensnared by the enemy by believing that we are our own provider, and that we make our own destiny. The Lord Jesus is the author and the finisher of our faith, and again, he will provide all of our needs according to all of our riches in glory. Do not put your faith and trust in the things of this world. Do not lay up treasure for yourselves where the moth and rust will destroy. Lay up your treasure in heaven through prayer, fasting, and the reading and studying of god’s holy word. Be a witness to the lost of how great a salvation the Lord has wrought in your lives. Brethren, seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all of your earthly needs will be met, and then some. Give of the first fruits of your increase to the Lord, as we are commanded to do in God’s holy word. Honor God not only with your mouth, but with your works as well. Brethren, where is your treasure? Is your treasure in the things and cares of this world? If so, repent! Seek the Lord’s forgiveness, and place all of your faith and trust in the Lord Jesus, and His provision for your lives. Examine your hearts my brethren and seek the holy face of the Lord and His will for your lives. Trust in Him, for He will bring the increase if we but put our faith and trust in Him. Amen.
