“The Same Yesterday, Today, and Forever”

Hebrews 13:8; Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

The Lord has placed a message upon my heart that speaks to us, His redeemed. Often times we choose to believe that the Lord is pleased with us no matter how we live our lives. We often take our salvation for granted. We think that because we are living under the covenant of grace, we can trample that grace by sinful actions, and that the Lord will not judge such actions. This is a false belief. This belief is blasphemous, and is being preached in a multitude of churches today.

The Lord Jesus created the heavens and the earth. He created mankind, and walked with Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden. He is the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the Ending. The Lord our God never changes for He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. John 1:1 states; In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. No matter how much we delude ourselves into believing that the Lord overlooks sin in our lives, we are wrong. Often times we believe that because we are living in the dispensation of grace, we can live in sin against our precious Lord Jesus. No matter how much we try to convince ourselves that God has changed His hatred of sin to an attitude of indifference is again wrong. Yes we are living in the age of grace. We are not under the old covenant law, however, the Lord still judges sin, and He will continue to do so until the end of the age.

Paul the Apostle wrote on this matter to those who were of the Roman church. Romans 1:18 states; For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness. Paul goes on to say in Romans 6:1-2; What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Paul also states in Romans 6:15-16; What then? shall we sin because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. Know ye not, That whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

Paul the Apostle states in Romans 8:1; There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. This is a wonderful verse of scripture. However, it is often times taken out of context. Often times this scripture is twisted to support the false idea that no matter if one continues to walk after the lusts of the flesh, they are still saved and going to heaven. The operative words in this verse of scripture is; (who walk not after the flesh). Are you walking in the lusts of the flesh? If so, repent. The scripture goes on to say that; (there is no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus who walk after the Spirt). Are you walking in the Spirit? If so, Praise God! For those of you who are walking in the Spirit, are pleasing unto the Lord, and there is no condemnation unto you. If you are walking in the lusts of the flesh, you are deceived, and you are not pleasing unto the Lord. Now, dare I say, if an individual is walking according to the lusts of the flesh, and is claiming to be a follower of Jesus, they are a liar and they are trampling the grace of God, and are indeed lost in their sin. If this is the case in your life, there is hope for you. Repent of your sin, ask forgiveness, and sin no more.

Paul the Apostle to the very matter of being carnally minded in Romans 8:6-8; For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. Consequently, those who claim to be followers of Jesus and live carnally are an enemy of God, even in this dispensation of grace. Be not fooled by the so called wisdom of those preachers of the false gospel of carnality and convenience. They are wolves in sheep’s clothing and they desire to make merchandise of you, for their own financial gain. They are seeking only to heap followers unto themselves, not caring for the eternal souls of those they are deceiving. This false gospel of carnality and convenience, puts the carnal mind, and carnal pleasures on a pedestal, all the while, making themselves rich in the process. God did not send His only begotten Son to die on Calvary’s cross, and shed His precious blood for all of mankind’s sins, so that those who claim to be followers of Jesus can trample His grace and His mercy and live like hell. No, the Lord Jesus is not pleased with those who claim to be His followers, who have a form of godliness and deny the power thereof. The Lord told us to be holy as He is holy. What is holiness? Holiness is living a life that is pleasing to God. Now, it is obvious that no man is perfect. Only Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God is perfect. He lived a holy and sinless life while He was here on this earth, and was the holy sacrifice for all of the sins of mankind. As human beings, we are more than likely going to fall sometime during our walk with the Lord. However, if and when we do fall, we have an advocate in heaven. He is the Lord Jesus Christ, and He pleads our case before the Father. We must however repent of our sin, and ask forgiveness with a humble and contrite heart before the Lord. He is then faithful and just to forgive us our sins, never to remember them, and He casts them as far as the East is from the West. Praise be to God for His abundant mercy and grace! Praise be to God that we are washed in the blood of the Lamb, and that are sins are remembered no more! The bottom line here is; God’s grace does not give us a license to sin. Anyone preaching this false gospel of carnality and convenience, all the while leading people astray, by stating that one can live like hell and still make heaven their home, he is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

Paul the Apostle states in 1 Corinthians 6:11; Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolators, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. The question that must be asked is this; are all those who name the name of Jesus saved? The answer is no they are not. The Lord Jesus himself said that many will come to Him on that day and say that they did all of these mighty works in His name. He will turn to them and say, “Depart from me ye workers of iniquity, for I never knew you.” Matthew 7:22 states; Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then I will profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. Those who claim to be followers of the Lord, and lead a lifestyle of sin, will stand before God one day, and shall be judged according to their works. Revelation 20:12 states; And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things that are written in the books according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were all judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Paul the Apostle states that we are all sinners saved by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, not of works lest any man should boast. Paul states is Ephesians 2:8; For by grace ye are saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God. Salvation is indeed the gift of God, and is freely given to any and all who ask Jesus into their hearts. Romans 10:9 states; that if you confess with your mouth”Jesus is Lord” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. There is nothing we can do to add or take away from the price that the Lord Jesus paid on the cross of Calvary. We cannot work our way into heaven, and the scriptures are very clear on this fact. However, one’s faith is dead if one does not have works to show one’s faith. James 2:20 states; But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? James 2:26 continues; For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. In the parable of the sower of the  seed Matthew 8:13-15 states; they on the rock are they, which when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away. And they which fell among the thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with the cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection. But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience. The key words here are; (the word) and (bring forth fruit). The question is: Are we following the word of God with respect to living a holy, sanctified, and justified life apart from sin? If so, then, we are the seed that fell upon the good ground and we will bring forth fruit with patience. The next question is: Are we living according to the lusts of the flesh, carnality, and convenience? If so, then, we are the seed that fell among the thorns and we will bring forth no fruit to perfection. Which type of seed are you? Do not be deceived, for the Lord will not be mocked, nor will He strive with man. If you are claiming to be a follower of the Lord Jesus, and are living a life steeped in sin, you will not bring any fruit to perfection, and will therefore be cast out. It is time for us to repent. We must stop living a life steeped in sin once and for all. The Lord is calling all of us, His true followers, to live a life that glorifies, and magnifies the risen Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Lord Jesus is calling those of us who call upon His name, and profess to be His followers, to be holy as He is holy. We are to be salt and light to a lost and dying world. The scriptures state that to be a friend of the world is to be an enemy of God. Are you a friend of the world? If so, repent! James 4:4 states; Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. It is time for us to repent of the sin of being a friend of the world. We must humble ourselves and pray for God’s mercy to be upon us, and ask for forgiveness of this sin, and all sins for that matter. We must not listen to those men who are wolves in sheep’s clothing, who preach a false gospel of carnality and convenience. We must read and study God’s holy word and meditate upon it day and night. We must lead a life that is pleasing unto the Lord, and be holy as He is holy. Yes, we are saved by grace through faith, but we are also commanded to bring forth fruit unto perfection. This comes by the Holy Spirit working in and through us as we are obedient to the Lord. Are you leading a life that is pleasing to the Lord? Are you salt and light to a lost and dying world? If so, then, praise be to God! For you will bring forth fruit with patience. If not, then you will bring forth no fruit to perfection. Repent today, for the kingdom of God draws near. Revelation 2:5 states; Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come upon thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. Amen.
